.40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
I'll open the floor for discussion. I shot a S&W Sigma (I think it was a Sigma) a few weeks ago and there really wasn't much recoil, but I want to shop around and pick everyone's brain on pros and cons of different models before I buy. How many of you have a .40 as your concealed-carry weapon, and for those of you who do, what do you carry?

Run away from the Sigma. I can't believe these things are still for sale.
Go with a Glock 27 or 23. |

I've carried both the glock 23 and the springfield xd sub, i now carry the springfield xd sub and love it, in the summer when clothes don't permit i carry the ruger LCP.
the sig is a damn good gun too |
Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
XD sub as others have mentioned, But I carry a S&W M&P 40 in compact as my daily defense weapon.
Instead of the LCP, check out the SIG .380, nice little pocket gun. |
Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
Go 9mm. Glock 17 or 19. Corbon DPX hollow points for carry.

Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
XD or M&P compact models - I like the XD a little better.

Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
I've had the Glock 23, 27, XD subcompact and XD compact. I like the Glock 27 the best, with the 23 the second choice. The XD's just feel too top heavy and "bulky" for me. They are good guns, but I like the Glocks better, and carry the G27 daily.

This is mine, a 27. I've also got a Ruger but it's a good bit larger. I think my all time favorite carry piece was a Taurus titanium 38 special revolver with a ported barrel. It was so small and light that it could easily be carried in front pants pockets. That means it was much more likely to be with me.

Glock 27 works for me. You can also drop in a barrel and shoot .357 Sig.

Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
I like the Glock 23 and wear it on the hip. Wearing a dickies T you can't even see it unless I bend down or something...it may print a tad then.
My S&W airweight revolver is so easy to conceal its ridiculous, but I like having the extra 8 rounds in the Glock. Thinking of trying a IWB holster, but my Bianchi carrylock 82 is great for wearing the glock. |
Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
Second the Glock 23... smaller print than my Sig 250 so I might start to carry the Glock 23 instead.

Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
I just got a Glock 27 a week or so ago. AMAZING gun. You will have no regrets.

Go with the XD.

Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
Is size a concern? The Sigma seems a little large for concealed carry. I really liked the Beretta PX4 compact in 9mm that I shot. Light recoil, accurate and well made. I would imagine that would also ring true for the PX4 in .40.
Not sure why, but I don't see Beretta mentioned much on these boards. |
Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
My daily carry is either a Glock 23 or a Kahr PM40.
|
Re: .40-cal for concealed carry--recommendations?
I have:
* Smith & Wesson M&P Compact .40 cal. * Kahr MK40 .40 cal. The Kahr is very thin for wearing under a shirt, but holds less ammo. The S&W is great for under a coat. Both are Made in USA! |

There are a few Beretta fans here. I really like the Model 92 (9mm) and the 96 (.40 S&W), but they're too big for CC because I'm in Florida, and wearing a lot of clothes to conceal the weapon usually isn't an option. But they're great home defense or out-on-the-property open carry guns. My carry weapon is a Sig P-229 in .40 S&W, but if I'm going out with light clothing I'll take my Kel-Tec P3AT. I also have an XD subcompact in .40 S&W, and I really like the way it shoots and feels. Very accurate, and less flip than my Sig. I'm toying with the idea of going to the XD for my carry gun, but I'm used to the Sig.... |
